The snow hasn’t stopped our farmers from getting our share boxes put together. As always, pickup is at Sunnyside Community Services from 5pm-8pm. Please don’t come early, the volunteers need time to set up.
Golden Earthworm:
Watermelon Radish (2 lbs)
White or Yellow Potatoes (2 lbs)
Carrots (5 lbs)
Rutabaga (4 lbs)
Beets (4 lbs)
Leeks (3 pcs) No sweet potatoes this delivery. They’ll be in the last delivery in March.
Need an idea for your leeks? I am in love with Nom Nom Paleo’s Slow Cooker Chicken recipe. The cookbook version varies a bit–instead of onions, use 3 leeks (white part only), and throw in a tablespoon of fish sauce for extra umami. I didn’t have tomato paste on hand the last time I made it, so I doubled up the fish sauce and it tasted delicious. I kind of wanted to pour the gravy on everything in sight, like boiled carrots and cheese fries and scrambled eggs.
Winter Sun:
Sweet Corn
Green Beans
Butternut
Broccoli
Blueberries
Pea Shoots
Tomato Puree
Village Fishmonger:
Longfin squid
And as always you can pick up your apple, cider, and beer shares.
Sign-ups for 2014 are open for returning members. Click here to lock in your spot.
Bring your checkbook to sign up for your 2014 share, bring some mad money for a raffle ticket to win a fruit share courtesy of Briermere Farms, and bring your taste buds to sample offerings from our expanded list of vendors–including beer, wine, kombucha, fish, milk, a la carte veggies, and, of course, our dearly beloved Lewis Waite and Golden Earthworm Farm.
And if you haven’t already, please fill out our annual survey by 1/31. We’ll be discussing the results at the Open House on Tuesday night.

NEWS FROM THE FARM
Happy Holidays! The final delivery of the season is finally here. Now it’s time to put the farm to bed and enjoy a restful off-season. As the farmer’s wife, I like to joke that my husband is married to both me and the farm… and it certainly feels like that during the growing season! I look forward to this time of year when we can spend quality time together as a family. Our two little ones are growing up so quickly and Galen has really taken to his role as “Little Farmer” this season, driving the tractor (with his daddy), washing veggies and even packing the CSA boxes! (He loves it and begs to stay at the farm well past dinnertime when we drag him home…) Zinn is just starting to take his first steps, so I’m sure he’ll be tottering around in the warm greenhouses this winter.

NEWS FROM THE FARM
Snow! It may be beautiful, but it’s not nice weather for working in fields. As the season comes to a close, it’s less comfortable for our workers picking and washing the veg in these cold temperatures. They deserve a big thank you for their hard work all season, and especially now as they work through the snow and wind and freezing wash waters.

NEWS FROM THE FARM
Ok, so this is the last week of Peppers! (I promise.) We’ve had a bumper crop of peppers this season and as is typical in CSA, you’ve received the bounty of the harvest over the past couple months. Luckily peppers are easy to roast and freeze for use in recipes over the winter! Check out the instructions under the Recipe section in this newsletter. The Cauliflower is a real treat this week! This crop is not especially easy to grow and we haven’t had it for several seasons, so enjoy! Bon appetit! – Maggie

Cauliflower and potato soup
In a heavy bottomed soup pot, saute a chopped onion and 1 clove of minced garlic in some olive oil. Add a head of cauliflower (roughly cut into 1″ chunks), 2-3 small potatoes and 1 carrot (all peeled and cut into 1/2″ chunks) and saute for a few minutes. Add water to just cover the veg, put a top on the pot and boil, then simmer until the potatoes, carrots and cauliflower are tender. Use an immersion blender to puree smooth and season to taste with salt and pepper.

NEWS FROM THE FARM
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual CSA Harvest Festival on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and we hope everyone enjoyed seeing the farm! A very special thank you to Barbara Garriel, Alexa Weitzman, Stacey Ornstein and our lovely volunteer, Nancy Glover, for making the day such a success!
I think we’re finally turning a corner towards some real autumn weather this week. The farm is still bustling, but things do start to slow down just a bit by the end of this month. The tomatoes in this week’s share will be the last of the season. I’m still amazed that we’re harvesting so many tomatoes this late in the season. If you want to save them to use in soups this winter, just chop them up (with skins on!) and pop in a ziplock bag in the freezer.
– Maggie
