Fruit Shares are Coming

If you have signed up for a summer fruit share, it’s almost time to enjoy the delicious harvest!

Fruit Share pick-ups will begin August 8th. 

As a reminder, fruit shares will be delivered weekly, and are subject to the same time, location and rules of the other pick-ups (fruit not picked up at the end of the night will be donated to SCS).

If you have not yet signed up for your volunteer hours, please do so now.

Last pick-up & last days to register!

This is the last week for Summer Shares! But not to worry, you can still sign up for Winter Shares until THIS FRIDAY–options for fresh winter crops and preserved summer goodies.

Today is also the last day to reserve a table at the annual CSA Holiday Market, held Dec. 14.

And don’t forget the 50/50 raffle is still going. Proceeds benefit our Subsidized Share Program. We’re currently around $500, which means you’d get half of that if you win!!

And, here’s what’s in our last box for November 16th. Pickup at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.

Fruit shares this week are bosc pears + jonagold and granny smith apples.

Veggies are below:


Sweet Potatoes2.5 lbs of various sizes! Store in a cool, dry spot–not the fridge. Use within 10 days.


Carrots – A big bag to preview some of the sweet winter veggies. Store in the fridge. Use within 10 days.


Rutabaga – Another round of these slightly sweet, tasty root vegetables. Store in the fridge Use within 5 days.


Butternut Squash Try it mashed–it may be your new holiday favorite. Store on the counter Use within 10 days.


Collards – A yummy holiday traditional dish in the South. Store in the fridge. Use within a week. 


Leeks – It’s the last round for this great vegetable. Store in the fridge. Use within 10 days.


Watermelon Radish – If you haven’t tried this variety before–you’re in for a treat! These are great raw or cooked. Store in the fridge. Use within 10 days. 


Red Kale – A great, versatile variety. Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.


Parsley – Perfect to add a little fresh flavor for you holiday dishes. Store in the fridge. Use within a week

Veggies and Fruit — Oct 19th

Here’s what’s in the box tomorrow—pickups are October 19th at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.

**Don’t forget about the 50/50 raffle at pickup! All proceeds benefit our Subsidized Share Program. Basically if you win you get half the raffle cash, and the subsidy gets the other half to help people in our neighborhood access food shares.

Fruit shares this week are a bag of jonagold and mutsu apples. Veggies are listed below:


Carrots Sweet and crunchy and ready for enjoying! Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.


Red Kale – Full of antioxidants and works in any of your favorite kale recipes. Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.


Yellow Potatoes – These are great for roasting. Store in a cool, dark place. Use within a week.


Bok Choi Enjoy another helping of these great veggies. Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.


Leeks – Great in soups or roasted alone. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.


Parsley – Try adding it at the end of soup-cooking for a fresh color and flavor. Store in the fridge. Use within 3 days. 


Escarole – Do not confuse this with lettuce! The inner leaves are great raw, but the outer leaves are better cooked (they can be bitter raw). Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.

Veggies & Fruit for Aug 24

Have you ever seen an orange watermelon? Get ready, it’s in your veggie share tomorrow. (And another bag of peaches and apples for the fruit shares–let them ripen outside the bag, please.)

All pickups are August 24th at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.


Orange Watermelon – Give it a try and see how it compares to last week! Store in the fridge. Use now.


Red Tomatoes – This week is beefsteak tomatoes that have been growing since May. Golden Earthworm sent an email how to know when they’re ripe. Store on the counter. Use now.


Sungold Cherry Tomatoes – Great for snacking and salads. Store on the counter. Use now.


Zucchini We’re on to the last planting of these, so enjoy the final harvest. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.


Peppers – These green frying peppers are not spicy. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.


Swiss Chard – This summer green is back and ready to be pan-fried. Store in the fridge. Use within 3 days.


Cabbage One more week of cabbage this summer. Store in the fridge. Use within a week, but if you wrap it well it can last for longer.


Red Batavian Lettuce – Lots of greens this week! Store in the fridge. Use within a week.

Veggies & Fruit for Aug 10

We’re transitioning from mid-summer to late-summer crops this week! For the fruit shares there are peaches and apples–be sure to take them out of the bag when you get home.

All pickups are August 10th at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.


Sweet Corn – Enjoy this goodbye batch of sweet corn. Store in the fridge. Use within 2 days (or you can freeze them).


Red Potatoes – Golden Earthworm did not wash them this week to protect the skins, so be sure to wash them at home. Store in a cool, dark place. Use within a week.


Walla Walla Onions – Enjoy another round of these sweet onions. Store on the counter. Use within a week.


Lovelock & Magenta Lettuce – Fast-growing crops gave us two heads of lettuce this week! Store in the fridge. Use within a week.


Zucchini We’re getting deep into zucchini season. Bring on the breads! Store in the fridge. Use within a week.


Green Beans (in rotation) – These are harvested while small and tender (and delicious!). Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.


Sungold Cherry Tomatoes (in rotation) – These are a first harvest and sweet as sugar. Store on the counter. Use now.

Veggies In the Box–July 20

Hello fruit, you’re looking fine!

Tomorrow kicks off our fruit shares– plus we have our monthly special products pick-up (beer, soap, fish and kombucha), and Lewis Waite Farm orders. All pickups are July 20th at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.

And on to the veggies for this week–you know the drill, store them in an airtight plastic bag in the fridge…


Walla Walla Onions – Juicy, sweet and perfect for grilling. The stems can be discarded or used as a stock. Use within a week.


Beets – Try them raw or cooked, or our summer favorite: grilled! Use within a week.


Swiss Chard – A hearty summer green, this is one that is not meant to be eaten raw. Try this recipe from Golden Earthworm if you’re a newbie to this veggie. Use within a week.


Green Cabbage – This cabbage is great as a slaw, but can also be used stuffed, baked, in soups or salads. Use within 5 days.


Red Batavian Lettuce – A nice summer lettuce, this variety is similar to Romaine, but a slightly softer texture. Use within a week.


Parsley – A great fresh flavor and packed full of nutrients. Use within  a week.


Cucumber – Another round to keep you cool during the heat waves. Use within a week.


Summer Squash or Zucchini – These have had a bit of a mystery growing season, so we’re not sure when they’ll make it into the box.
