IT’S HERE! 1st Veggie pickup – May 31

Hello and welcome to the official start of the 2018 Summer Season!

For the newbies: We’ll be posting here each week to remind you about pickups, and give you a quick rundown of what’s in the veggie box. These posts will also be on our Facebook page, if you want to follow along there or ask any questions. For more detailed descriptions, and recipe ideas, be sure to sign up for the Golden Earthworm email newsletter. Or follow Golden Earthworm Organic Farm CSA on Facebook for recipes and ideas from all their CSA members.

All pickups are at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm. Please note that any boxes not picked up by 8pm will be donated to SCS, and items are subject to change.

If you still need to sign up for your volunteer spots, check our volunteer page for what’s still available.

Here’s the list of what we’re getting tomorrow. All items stored in the fridge should be in an airtight plastic bag (see this week’s newsletter for more details).

Mustard Greens Salad Mix Featuring 11 different varieties! Store in the fridge. Use within 5 days.

Boston Lettuce – Also known as butter or bib lettuce, it has soft leaves that are best with light dressings. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.

Red or Green Curly Leaf Lettuce – Another tender early-season variety. Use within a week.

Bunched Red Kale – Remove the stems and use in soup, they’re pretty tough for eating raw or steaming. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.

French Breakfast Radishes– Try the radish with butter and salt–and you can cook the green tops! Store in the fridge after separating roots from stems. Use within 5 days.

Veggies & Fruit for Aug 17th

You get a watermelon! And you get a watermelon! Watermelons for everyone! (Plus the fruit shares get a bag of peaches and apples–be sure to take them out of the bag when you get home.)

All pickups are August 17th at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.

Watermelon – Two for each share. They have seeds, and they are grown more for flavor than transportation, so be gentle to avoid cracks. Store in your fridge. Use now.

Yukon Potatoes – These ones are great for potato salad. Store in a cool, dark place. Use within a week.

Zucchini More zucchini, so yum! If it’s getting too much to handle, check out how to freeze it for later. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.

Scallions – This week Golden Earthworm shared a scallion dressing for these bad boys. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.

Cabbage Did someone say they wanted to try grilled cabbage still? Well, here’s your chance. Store in the fridge. Use within a week.

Red Tomatoes – Subtly sweet with a slight bitter and acidic taste. Use now.

Please note that any boxes not picked up by 8pm will be donated to SCS, and items are subject to change. Look for Golden Earthworm Organic Farm CSA on Facebook for more recipes from members!
