Veggies & Fruit for Sept 28

Hello and here’s what’s in the veggie box today! (Fruit shares are a bag of gala/cortland apples and seckel pears.) All pickups are September 28th at Sunnyside Community Services from 5-8pm.

Arugula These leaves are tender, and it’s advised to wash and eat right away. Use now.

Bok Choi – This is a great favorite, and unlike most of the other greens, it should be stored on the counter. Use within a week.

Japanese Salad Turnips – You can eat both the tops and roots of these. Our favorite is to saute the tops and eat the bottoms raw. Use within a week.

Cauliflower Did you know cauliflower stays white because their leaves shade them from the sun? Use within a week.

Red, Yellow or Green Peppers – We’ve been patiently waiting for our peppers to change color–and now they’re ready! Use within 5 days.

Plum Tomatoes – These are the last of the season, so sad to see them go. Use now.

Collards or Napa Cabbage – These are in rotation, happy box surprise! Use within 5 days.

Eggplant (in rotation) – Patience is a virtue with these guys–their slow growth means harvesting is in stages and CSA locations will get them in different weeks. Use within a week.

Please note that any boxes not picked up by 8pm will be donated to SCS, and items are subject to change. Look for Golden Earthworm Organic Farm CSA on Facebook for more recipes from members!
